Will a Vega-Trem Fit Your Strat? 6-Screw vs 2-Point Explained

Check in two minutes whether a Vega-Trem VT1 fits your Strat-style guitar: how to tell 6-screw from 2-point, what fits, and what to expect at install.

Short answer: A Vega-Trem VT1 fits most guitars built around the standard Strat-style tremolo cavity, with no routing or drilling. The one thing you must get right is the mounting type. Look at your current bridge: six small screws along the front edge means you need the 6-screw version; two larger posts means you need the 2-point version.

The Vega-Trem VT1 is a drop-in replacement for the tremolo bridge on Strat-style guitars. It is designed to fit the original bridge cavity, so the body stays untouched and you can put the old bridge back at any time. Fit questions come down to one detail, and you can check it in under a minute.

How do I know if my Strat is 6-screw or 2-point?

Look at the front edge of the bridge plate, the edge closest to the pickups.

  • 6-screw: six small screws in a row across the front edge. This is the vintage-style design, and you still find it on many current guitars.
  • 2-point: two larger posts, one at each end of the plate. This is common on many modern Strat-style guitars.

Check the hardware itself rather than the model name or year. Two guitars with the same model name can use different bridges, and a previous owner may have swapped the bridge.

Not a VT1 fit; this uses a different cavity

If you order the wrong mounting type, the bridge will not drop into your cavity, because the post or screw pattern will not line up.

Which guitars does the VT1 fit?

The VT1 is built for the original Strat-style (ST) tremolo routing pattern, whatever the brand. Vega-Trem lists Fender and Squier Stratocasters, PRS, Music Man, Suhr, Tom Anderson, Schecter, Charvel and Warmoth among broadly compatible guitars, and describes that list as a guide rather than a guarantee. If your guitar has a non-standard bridge cavity, or you are not sure which version you need, send us a photo of your bridge and we will check the fit for you.

What changes when I install it?

  • No routing, no drilling. The bridge sits in the existing cavity and does not stand higher than the original.
  • Plan an evening for the first install. One owner reported about two hours, mostly for setup: getting the bridge parallel to the body with the spring claw screws, then setting intonation.
  • Restring with the back cover off. If your back plate has string-access holes, they will probably not line up with the VT1's string holes.
  • Locking tuners and a locking nut are optional. Smooth string movement through the nut matters more. Lubricate the nut slots when you restring.
  • Expect a short break-in. New strings stretch. Some tuning drift on the first hard bends is normal until they settle.

Special or Ultra-Trem?

Both come in 6-screw and 2-point versions and share the same pivot system and saddles. The difference is the block: brass on the VT1 Special, stainless steel on the Ultra-Trem. We compare the two in detail in VT1 Special vs Ultra-Trem, and you can see every model and finish we carry in our guitar hardware collection.

Quick fit checklist

  1. Count the screws or posts on your current bridge.
  2. Confirm it is a standard Strat-style tremolo, not a locking bridge.
  3. Choose your block: Special (brass) or Ultra-Trem (stainless steel).
  4. Choose your finish.
  5. Have a screwdriver, fresh strings and nut lubricant ready.

FAQ

Does the Vega-Trem need any modification to my guitar? No. It mounts in the original cavity with no routing or drilling, and the original bridge can go back in later.

Can I put a 6-screw Vega-Trem on a 2-point guitar? No. The mounting points will not line up. Order the version that matches the bridge you have now.

Do I need locking tuners with a Vega-Trem? No. Standard tuners in good condition work. A well-cut, lubricated nut does more for tuning stability.

How long does installation take? The swap itself is quick. Allow one to two hours the first time for setup and intonation.
